The Revolt of the Masses, by Gasset, is a paradoxical essay in an era of “runs and falls” and “calm in the storm”, proud but not pretentious exploration of the problem of modern man. According to Ortega y Gasset, Man-mass through some of its characteristics as in the first place, forgetting (or rather the concealment) of the past.

Throughout the 1920s, Jose Ortega y Gasset gave series of lectures that eventually became his magnum opus entitled The Revolt of the Masses. His work centers on the rise of the mass-man and his disregard for political authority (or the state), culture, and progress. The masses had been around in the plural since St. Augustine's massa perditionis but individual mass-man, el hombre masa, Ortega claimed as a discovery. Finally, the cultural revolt meant the end José Ortega y Gasset’s masterpiece, The Revolt of the Masses. José Ortega y Gasset was a part of three basic trends. The first was Noucentisme, a movement for cultural renewal.
